Outside the Inner Circle
I went to a concert of a band that has been around a long time. They have released something like sixteen albums. It is a band with rabid fans and their music means a lot to people. The songwriter writes very literary songs, and has even written two novels. I’ve only recently discovered them, even though we both live in Durham. I only have two of their albums – including their latest – and have only listened to them a couple of times. It’s really hard to go to a concert like this when you don’t know any of the songs. I don’t know any of the sing-along parts, although I recognized a few of the new songs. It makes you feel even more like an outsider when this concert is at the end of the tour in the band’s hometown. Instead of people feeling a personal connection with the band, they actually have one.
