As we are cleaning up and decluttering, I've been going through a lifetime of photos. Many of these photos have been sitting boxes for more than 30 years. I remember some of the circumstances of the photos, but don't remember many of the photos. However, I feel like I've been taking the same type of photos for my whole life.
The process is simple. I take out an envelope of photos—and since I had many rolls of film processed by mail order, they are in envelopes—look through the pictures to see if there is anything interesting. Interesting is defined as something that would go in a photo album or hang on the wall. There are not many of those. The rest go in the trash. Purging these boxes that have followed me around for years feels cathartic.
