Four years ago I started thinking about a trip to Greece. I came across the island Folegandros. It's a small island with a car-free old town and a white church up on a hill. Like other Greek islands there are lots of beaches that lead to the blue blue Aegean Sea. It's described as an island where people would go if there were no Santorini. However, everybody goes to Santorini and fewer people visit Folegandros.
Once Deborah and I started talking about travel—long before we knew how upended travel would get due to the pandemic—we started talking about Folegandros. We would go there are she completed her dissertation. I found an amazing AirBnB on the edge of the old town with a view towards the church and the sea. I clicked the heart button to favorite it.
More than three years later I have booked the Cliff House on Folegandros for our October trip to Greece. We both can't wait to toast the blue of the sea with Greek wine.
