There is a sign that is visible from the Triborough Bridge in NYC that has been there as long as I can remember. I used to pass it on the way to school as the bus left Manhattan and headed into the Bronx. It is a metal scaffold-type sign with an ad attached to the left side.
In the 1970s, the ad was a 3D version of a Kent cigarette pack with the large neon letters spelling KENT. There was also a digital display that showed the time and temperature. We could always tell if the bus was running late by the clock on the sign. At some point, the Kent cigarettes were replaced with Newports.
Now the sign has an Uber logo on it. That just seems out of place. Do we need to be reminded about Uber? It's already on my phone. And I was riding in one when I passed the sign. And the time and temperature are gone. That's on my phone too.
