I've read a few non-fiction books about Appalachia and the opioid crisis. This book tells that story with more emotion and more resonance than any of them. And a lot more heart. While this is a modern version of David Copperfield, I remember almost nothing from my eighth grade reading of it. I will remember the trials and tribulations of Demon for a long time.
