As each graduate walked across the stage to receive their diploma (holder), their name is called and it appears on the big screen. Some graduates receive loud cheers, and since it is Appalachian State, some that could best be described as hoots and hollers.
While everyone wore the same black cap and gown, their shoes were clearly visible on the big screen. I was looking for any correlation between the loudness of the cheers with either their name (traditional vs stereotypical GenZ) or their shoes (sandals vs heels). While my conclusions are unscientific—which meant I was not tracking the data in a spreadsheet—I found no correlation.
