People avoid stepping in puddles and mud, but animals don’t seem to be bothered by them. This seems like a learned behavior. If nobody ever complained about you tracking mud in the house – or if you lived in a mud hut so you were really tracking more “floor” into the hut – you would happily tromp through mud as if it were no big deal.
