We don’t think much about sound. It usually just skitters around the edges of our perception. But sound is so much more rich than we realize. We know that it has duration and volume, but it also has emotion, distance and history. A book I read described the layers of sound and how it touches us in every waking moment. That is, if we are attuned to it.
The Spring is a great time to sit outside and listen to the sounds. The birds are the most prominent, and listening to them is one way to admire the depth of our soundscape.
