I got an email from the most well-known of the streaming servers that used to send DVDs through the mail. The subject line said, We’re updating our prices — here’s why. The title at the top of the email said, Updating prices to bring you more. The second sentence of the email said, We’re updating our prices to bring you more great entertainment. Then the email proceeded to tell me that the price would change to a new amount. I'm pretty sure it's higher.
The second paragraph apparently tells me why. This update will allow us to deliver even more value for your membership. So they have now told me four times that they are updating prices and once the price is changing. All so they can offer me more value.
How are they offering me more value? Do I know get 25 hours of access per day? Can I log in from more devices? Can I watch shows in multiple languages at the same time? Nope. I'm just paying more. Basic math would tell me that if my service is not changing, but I'm paying more, that's less value. That's why they updated prices. To provide less value.
